DreamWake for iOS · Last updated: 2026-10-01

Your dreams

Your dreams, notes, answers, progress and settings are stored on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud (Apple CloudKit). We can't see them. There are no accounts; the app uses a random, anonymous ID.

Recordings are transcribed on your iPhone and deleted once the dream has text. Audio is never uploaded.

AI analysis and pictures

With a subscription and "Find images with AI" on (Settings → Privacy; on by default, and you can switch it off at any time), the text of each new dream, its language and the names of images you've had before are sent over HTTPS through our server to DeepSeek, which processes it in the People's Republic of China. Our server doesn't store or log dream text. DeepSeek handles the request under its own privacy policy. Turn the setting off and no dream text leaves your phone.

The same setting gives each new dream its own picture. DeepSeek writes a short scene from the dream in English, without names, such as "a lighthouse on a low hill above still water". Only that scene goes to OpenAI in the United States, which draws the picture; OpenAI never receives the dream text. OpenAI handles it under its own privacy policy. Our server keeps neither the scene nor the picture: the picture goes straight to your iPhone and is stored with the dream, on your iPhone and in your iCloud. To limit pictures to a few per day, our server keeps one daily count per anonymous ID, stored under a scrambled (hashed) form of the ID and overwritten each day.

If you make an image your own, only its name goes the same way: DeepSeek describes it in English without names, and only that description goes to OpenAI, which draws it. The picture is stored with the image, on your iPhone and in your iCloud. Ten a day, counted like the pictures.

Illustrations of images are requested by a generic name such as "lighthouse", never with your dream.

Other services

• Apple and RevenueCat handle subscriptions. RevenueCat receives your anonymous ID and purchase data. We never see payment details.
• PostHog (EU, eu.i.posthog.com) receives usage events tied to your anonymous ID, such as "lesson completed" or "morning logged", plus device and app version. Never dream content.
• Cloudflare hosts our server and processes connection data such as IP addresses.

DreamWake 1

Dreams from version 1 are stored encrypted on our old server (dreamwake.aidenbuis.com) so you can import them once. They are deleted three months after DreamWake 2's release.

Your choices

• Export all dreams as Markdown or JSON in Settings, also without a subscription.
• Delete everything in Settings removes all data on your iPhone and in your iCloud.
• For usage data tied to your ID (shown in Settings), email us to access or delete it. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

DreamWake is not meant for children under 13.
